Students get sneak peek at new school

Posted: Updated:

Children begin classes at the new Central Trail Elementary in Sylvania on Monday, but on Saturday afternoon they got a sneak peek at their new classrooms.

The new school boasts five classrooms for each grade level kindergarten through fifth grade.

Parent Matt Kripke was impressed. "The building is unbelievable. They did a phenomenal job. Everything is first-class from top to bottom and I think it's going to be a great learning environment."

Students and parents were all smiles as they took in the state-of-the-art facility. The school was designed with idea of bringing the outside indoor. There are plenty of windows to let in light and it has of stone and wood accents throughout.

Principal Toni Gerber says the bigger and brighter space is better for learning. "Research shows that test scores go up. There's a better spirit in the building. People feel better about the environment."

The new school replaces the 84-year-old Central Elementary on Central and King.

Classes start Monday and an official ribbon-cutting ceremony is scheduled for Friday. The community is invited to tour the new building during an open house on January 15th.
