Sprow remembered as beloved principal, coach and teacher

DELTA, Ohio -
Students at Delta High School honored Cory Sprow who died Thursday from injuries sustained in a car accident on December 26.
The 38-year-old coach, teacher and principal was remembered with a moment of silence at a basketball game on Saturday.
The father-of-two held many titles in the Pike Delta York District. He was the elementary school principal, a long-time middle school teacher and a former Panthers basketball coach.
Delta High School principal Marty Friess said, "His loss will be felt by the entire district and so we're prepared as an entire district for the emotional outpouring that the students are certainly going to be giving."
His former players are going through a tough time. Scott Garlinger said, "Coach Sprow, he just lived with a passion. He told us to make the most of every day and live each day like it was your last. I've just really glad, blessed. God blessed me with a coach and father figure."
When the Panthers hit the basketball court on Saturday night, Sprow was their inspiration. Black and green T-shirts sporting Sprow's name and high school number could be seen everywhere.
Delta assistant principal and athletic director Chad Smith said, "Just a real special guy. Very compassionate and heavily involved with every student."
Smith said the T-shirts are popular and that they're going to use some of what's earned from their sale to help offset the cost of Sprow's funeral arrangements.
Dereck Friess, a friend and colleague of Sprow's said, "It's fitting, very fitting to the man and what he stood for and represented."
Friends said Sprow did everything to help his students from announcing baseball games to attending their sporting events.
Counselors will be on hand when classes resume Monday. The Pike Delta York District is canceling class on Tuesday to hold a celebration of life service at the high school at 11 a.m. That service is open to the public.
