Many times sunspots are the source of solar flares that can create geomagnetic storms on earth. Despite the high number of sunspots, solar activity has been at very low levels. Space weather experts at NOAA say that the rapid increase in sunspots could lead to more solar flares over the next few days.

Portions of Moore, Oklahoma were ravaged by a mile-wide tornado this Monday afternoon. This follows a near-record quiet start to tornado season. Strong storms may reach northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan by Tuesday.
