Sandusky County, OHIO (WTVG) -- A 28-year-old Islip, New York man is in critical condition after police say he drove through a stop sign and was struck by another vehicle.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol says Lucas Ryan was going south on US 51 in a Volvo around 9 a.m. Sunday morning, when he failed to stop at the stop sign at US 20 and was struck in the driver's side by a Dodge Ram driven by 50-year-old Steve Stocker of Norwalk.

Ryan's vehicle went off the south side of US 20, struck a traffic sign and came to rest in a field. Stocker's vehicle spun and came to a rest in the eastbound lanes of US 20.

Ryan was taken by air ambulance to St. Vincent's Mercy Medical Center in Toledo and is listed in critical condition. Mr. Stocker was taken by ambulance to Fremont Memorial Hospital and is listed in fair condition.

The crash remains under investigation and citations are pending.
