ADRIAN - For the first time in two-and-a-half weeks Lourdes women's basketball team returned to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play, falling 72-37 to Siena Heights on Wednesday evening at the Fieldhouse in Adrian, Mich.
The Saints held the Gray Wolves to just 20% shooting from the floor on the evening while Siena Heights shot 41.7% from the field for the game, including 50% (7-of-14) from three-point range.
"This is one of those games you have to just put in the rear view mirror and think about getting ready to play again on Saturday," head coach Zareth Gray stated after the game.
Siena Heights scored the game's first 13 points, and limited Lourdes to just two first half field goals. The Saints held the Gray Wolves scoreless for the first 7:30 and without a field goal for the final 9:30 of the stanza while building a 36-8 halftime advantage.
Lauren Tilden (Ravenna, Ohio/Ravenna H.S.) opened the second half with a triple for Lourdes but the hosts scored the next seven points and never looked back on the way to the victory.
Lourdes lone bright spot on the afternoon was at the free throw line, where the Gray Wolves made 12-of-13 to shooting a season-high 92.3% from the charity stripe.
Ty Ali (Chicago, Ill./Rich South H.S.) led Lourdes with 15 points, making 6-of-7 from the stripe, while Courtney Slepko (Cleveland, Ohio/Normandy H.S.) added nine points, including six of the team's eight in the first half.
Morgan Warfield led Siena Heights (9-6, 6-3 WHAC) with 16 points while Sierra Calhoun added 12 more.
Lourdes (4-12, 1-7) will return to the hardwood on Saturday afternoon traveling to Detroit, Mich. to face Marygrove. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
