ADRIAN - Lourdes rallied from a one-point halftime deficit to defeat Siena Heights 55-46 on Thursday evening at the Field House in Adrian, Mich. to notch its third consecutive victory.
The Gray Wolves trailed 22-21 at the break, and the game was tied at 32 five minutes into the second half, before going on a 9-0 run over the next seven minutes, scoring seven of the points at the free throw line. Lourdes would maintain a lead of at least seven the rest of the way, building its largest lead of the game, 49-38 with 4:56 to play following a pair of free throws by Alex Davis (Cleveland, Ohio/Nordonia H.S.).
The first half was tightly contested throughout, with neither team holding a lead of more than three points the entire way. The lead changed hands 10 times throughout the first 20 minutes and was tied on four other occasions.
It was a big advantage on the offensive glass that helped Lourdes pick up the victory. The Gray Wolves pulled down 25 offensive caroms which led to a 26-7 advantage in second chance points on the night. Lourdes also outscored Siena Heights 28-10 in the paint.
Lourdes shot just 32.1% from the floor for the game, but took care of the basketball, committing just eight turnovers on the night. The Gray Wolves made 21 free throws for the game compared with just six for the Saints as well. Siena Heights stayed in the game shooting 47.1% (8-of-17) from three-point range. Lourdes did not make a shot from long range in the game.
Davis led Lourdes with 12 points while Elvin Butler (Akron, Ohio/East H.S.) added 11 points for the Gray Wolves. Davis also pulled down a team-high seven rebounds as Lourdes outboarded the Saints 48-30 for the night.
Latwan Wesley led Siena Heights (4-12, 3-6 WHAC) with 14 points while Jamison Webster added 11 points and a game-high four assists.
