Lourdes Wins Fourth Straight, Defeating Marygrove on the Road

HIGHLAND PARK, MICH. - Lourdes University won its fourth straight game on Saturday afternoon, defeating Marygrove 61-39 at Ford Fieldhouse in Highland Park, Mich. to improve to 11-5 on the season and 6-3 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play.

 Corey Harvey (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson H.S.) led the Gray Wolves with 15 points, making 6-of-9 shots from the floor, while also pulling down nine rebounds.  Alex Davis (Cleveland, Ohio/Nordonia H.S.) added 13 points for Lourdes in the victory.

The Gray Wolves started strong, scoring the game's first 10 points while holding Marygrove scoreless for nearly seven minutes.  A Jake DuPree (Toledo, Ohio/Whiteford H.S.) jumper with 7:11 remaining increased the lead to 14, 22-8 and the lead would remain in double digits throughout the remainder of the half, with Lourdes taking a 35-20 advantage into the locker room.

Marygrove came out the second half and immediately cut into the Gray Wolves' lead.  An 11-1 run over nearly six minutes to start the stanza pulled the Mustangs to within five, 36-31.  Lourdes responded with four straight points to stop the run.

 Lourdes advantage remained between seven and nine points until the 8:30 mark, when the Gray Wolves went on a 14-0 spurt over 3:30 to put the game out of reach, pushing the advantage to 21 points.  Lourdes would increase the lead to as many as 24 in securing the victory.

Lourdes defense led the way in the victory, holding Marygrove to just 33.3% shooting from the floor, and just 28.6% (4-of-14) from three-point range.  The Gray Wolves also forced 18 Mustang turnovers which led to 25 points.  Lourdes also controlled the paint, outscoring the hosts 42-18 in the lane and outrebounding Marygrove 35-27 for the night.

Diante Taylor and Manny Washington led Marygrove (1-16, 1-8 WHAC) with eight points each.

After playing five straight games away from home, Lourdes will return to Tam-o-Shanter on Wednesday evening to face Northwestern Ohio.  Tip-off is slated for 5:30 p.m.
