Lenawee Co. man accused of sexually assaulting child

Posted: Updated:

A Lenawee County man is accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a child.

33-year-old Daniel Pitts of Clinton appeared in District Court in Adrian on Monday on ten counts of criminal sexual conduct.

Police arrested Pitts on Friday at his mom's apartment in Dundee.

Investigators say the suspect could face additional charges from incidents against the young victim dating back at least four years.

Pitts appeared for his arraignment in Lenawee County District court on Monday by video from the jail.

Police say the 33-year-old sexually assaulted a child under 16 years old at least ten times between December 12th and December 30th.

"We're very concerned about the child, the family," says Clinton Police Chief Michael Randolph.

Chief Randolph says Pitts lives in Clinton, but was arrested Friday morning at his mother's apartment in Dundee.

"Once we got the warrant he had moved out of Clinton to live with his mother. We made contact there, we arrested him without incident," says Randolph.

Daniel Pitts is being held at the Lenawee County jail on $200,000 bond.  As the investigation continues, Randolph is calling on the public for help.

"We also want to make sure there aren't additional victims out there. If anybody would have information regarding this individual about any other incidents we would like to talk with them," says Randolph.

Pitts will next appear in court January 18th.

If convicted, each count holds a maximum sentence of life in prison.
