Baby safe after being taken during carjacking

Posted: Updated:

WARREN, Mich. (AP) - A 3-month-old baby has been found safe after police say a thief stole an unattended vehicle from a suburban Detroit gas station with the child inside.

Police say the child's father left the child about 6:45 p.m. Monday in the back seat of the unlocked and running Chevrolet Suburban in Warren while he went inside.

The father called 911 after seeing a man get into the vehicle and drive away. Police say the vehicle was found a few blocks away.

Police say the thief likely ditched the vehicle after realizing there was a child inside. The father could be charged for leaving the baby unattended.
