Westfield Franklin Park Mall has added something to make things safer for shoppers. People are questioning, calling and wondering what are these blue lights. They are not part of the Toledo police departments skycop cameras. They're emergency call boxes to help keep you safe at the mall
Some customers at Westfield Franklin park mall have seen these blue lights, but have no clue what they are.
"First I thought it might be the sun shining on something. Then I thought, no it looks like more than that," said shopper Rose Woodruff
"Oh these blue lights? No, not until I just looked up," said shopper Brittany Barhite.
They're emergency call boxes. The phones provide customers with another way to contact mall security.
"It's for any customer who needs assistance. If their car breaks down. If there's an issue they're having outside; they can call that. It goes directly to our security dispatch office," said the security director of Westfield Franklin Park Mall.
Here's how it works .. all you have to do is push the red button.
"Ok now they receive the call here at the mall," said Woodruff. "yes," said reporter Alexis Means. Ok I like that," said Woodruff.
Once the call is received a red light will come on letting you know help is on the way.
This customers says he noticed the blue lights around Christmas.
"I think they would be some what of a deterrent to criminals," said customer Richard Reilly.
The mall had 43 call boxes on the property they added 21 more for you safety
