Toyota pays to put boots on feet of homeless kids

Posted: Updated:

DETROIT (AP) - Toyota's U.S. sales arm is helping homeless Detroit children stay warm with the gift of 200 pairs of winter boots.

Toyota Motor Sales USA has paid for the boots that went to families at the Salvation Army Denby Center for Children and Family Services in Detroit.

The boots were bought from Michigan-based Moosejaw, a camping and outdoor recreation outfitting company.

The Detroit Free Press says those getting boots Saturday included 9-year-old Kanizha Shabazz, who asked her mother if it was OK to thank God for blessing her.

The Denby Center offers shelter for up to 90 days to about 200 people who've lost their homes through job loss, foreclosure or domestic violence.
