EVANSVILLE, IND. - Nino Musitelli scored in the third period as Toledo defeated Evansville 2-1 tonight. Toledo has an overall record of 21-16-0-4 and is 12-10-0-1 on the road this season.
The two teams would trade scoring chances in the first period, but both goaltenders Jordan Pearce for Toledo and Paul Karpowich for Evansville came up with the stops to lead to a scoreless first period. Toledo held a 9-7 shot advantage in the first period.
"It is important for us to work like crazy against this team," said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. "We played physical tonight and generated some nice chances. It was our defense that won us this game."
It would be the IceMen that would get the scoring started as Josh Beaulieu beat Jordan Pearce at 5:03 of the second with a power play goal. The Walleye power play would tie the game at one when Adam Hobson slammed home a rebound at 11:22. The goal was the 4th of the year for Hobson.
Nino Musitelli would put the Walleye in front for the first time at 4:49 of the third period when tipped the Erik Spady shot for his second goal in as many nights. That was all the scoring as Toledo stopped a late flurry from Evansville.
Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jordan Pearce made 29 saves and is 11-7-0-1 on the season. Toledo is 2-3-0-0 against the Evansville IceMen this season. The power play goal for Toledo in the second period snapped an 0-24 streak with the man advantage.
