Tuberculosis cases rise in Lucas County

Posted: Updated:

The number of new cases of tuberculosis is on the rise in Lucas County.

The Toledo Blade reports there were five new confirmed cases during 2012 compared to only two cases in 2011.

The Lucas County health department says while the numbers are still small, treating those infected is critical because tuberculosis, or TB, can spread.

The Lucas County commissioners approved $40,000 yesterday for the health department's tuberculosis control unit.

Ohio recorded 145 TB cases in 2011, according to the state department of health.
