Church fires pastor amid criminal allegations

Posted: Updated:

A Toledo church fires its pastor Monday night after finding dozens of alleged criminal charges dating back more than 20 years.  More than thirty members of Southern Missionary Baptist Church voted to let go of their reverend, Anthony Quinn.

They claim the reverend had a history criminal charges he never told them about, and was starting to split the church apart.  We looked online at the court dockets, and could only verify one theft charge dating back to 1997.

Quinn took over in 2010 after the previous leader died.  They call this an unfortunate event, but hope the move will start the healing process.

"I've cried so much over the things that's happened at this church and I'm tired of crying," and Johnnie Feagin who attends the church and was the sister of the previous pastor, Robert Wormely.

"It's tearing down a legacy that was built that a man that started for 27 years it's been torn," says deacon Elmore Sturdivant. "It's a shame, the church is just fed up totally."

Quinn did not attend Monday's meeting, and did not respond to our multiple calls.   Church leaders say guest speakers will fill in until a new pastor is selected.
