Groundhog Day snow recap, by the numbers

Posted: Updated:
TOLEDO, Ohio -

Our Groundhog Day snowfall was a bit of an overachiever, with 2" to 4" accumulating across most of the area.

Through the early evening, the Toledo Express Airport has officially reported 3.7" of snow, boosting our winter total, so far, to 13.8".  That is still 8.1" below our average-to-date, but we have stepped ahead of last winter's pace.  In the winter of 2011-2012, we had only received 11.4" by this point in the season.

To the north, 2.5" of snow had fallen in Monroe by late afternoon (with snow still falling).  3.0" fell in Hillsdale, according to one report.

Far northeastern Monroe County only had 1.7" by late afternoon, and reports indicated slightly less snow fell farther to the north and east (only 1.3" by 4 PM in Detroit).

The very active weather pattern will continue through midweek, with more opportunities to play "catch-up", as this winter's total climbs back closer to average.  A dusting to an inch of snow could fall on Sunday.  Additional disturbances could produce another inch or so on Monday, and yet another inch or so on Tuesday.

Stay tuned!
