Local company turns trash into turf for Super Bowl

Posted: Updated:

The Ravens and 49ers will play the big game on turf made in Northwest Ohio.

The Maumee Bay Turf Center designed and installed the turf at the Super Dome. Over a dozen crew members spent three weeks putting the field together.

Company owner Brad Morrison says the field is safer and made from recycled materials. "There's 9,000 miles of fiber on that field, half a million pounds of recycled rubber. There's 30,000 car tires that have been ground up and cleaned."

After the game, the turf will be donated to the New Orleans Development Foundation, which helps inner-city kids.
