ALLENDALE, MICH. - Dana Gates set new personal bests in two events and Brooke Pleger set another PR in the weight throw Saturday on the second day of the GVSU Big Meet, hosted by Grand Valley State University.
Gates set personal bests in the long jump and the triple jump, finishing in the top 10 in both events at one of the largest indoor track and field meets in the country. Gates placed fifth of 36 competitors in the long jump with a distance of 17-feet-7.50 and then ended 10th of 25 in the triple jump with a leap of 35-8.00.
Pleger pushed her personal best in the weight throw to 62-1.25, three inches further than her toss at the Harvey-Simmons Invitational, which was her previous best. She placed fourth out of 62 competitors at the GVSU Big Meet.
Taylor Rambo set a pair of personal bests as well, finishing 12th in the 60 with a time of 8.02 and finishing the 400 in eighth place with a time of 57.35. Megan Monte posted the best 800 time for a BGSU runner this year in 2:21.36 and Demetra Taylor was just .01 seconds shy of her best in the 60 hurdles, sprinting to a time of 9.06 seconds.
BGSU will have the next weekend off before competing in the Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships at Eastern Michigan Feb. 22-23.
