Junior guard Rian Pearson has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. Pearson, who is being honored for the fourth time this season and seventh occasion in his career, averaged 22.5 ppg, 9.0 rpg, 2.0 spg and 1.5 apg in a pair of home wins over Miami and Eastern Michigan last week. The MAC's leading scorer shot 54.2 percent from the field and knocked down 19-of-26 free-throw attempts (73.1 percent).
A Raytown, MO native, Pearson produced one of the best performances of his Rocket career in Saturday's win over the Eagles, tallying 29 points (one shy of his career high) and 14 rebounds for his 12th career double-double. Pearson helped UT hold off several EMU rallies by scoring 20 points in the second half and connecting on his last 10 free throws.
In Toledo's one-point win over Miami, Pearson contributed 16 points (10 in the second half), four rebounds and two steals and was 5-of-8 from the field and 6-of-7 from the charity stripe.
