Lots of snow & cold for 2nd half of February

Posted: Updated:
TOLEDO, Ohio -

Let's admit it, this winter has been fairly tame in the Great Lakes region. After some periods of snow after Christmas day and some light snow in early February, most of the winter has been very tolerable. Temperatures were well above average for the first half of winter and snowfall is well below normal up to this point.

There are only 34 days left in the season, but those remaining days could become the most memorable for the Great Lakes region and Ohio Valley. The cold air is expected to remain locked in place while a very active jet stream will push powerful storm systems across the country one after another.

While it is to early for forecasters to know how much snowfall will fall and exactly where, the weather pattern is obviously pointing towards a very wintry finish to the 2012-13 winter season for this part of the country.

This active pattern will bring a blast of cold air for this weekend first before pushing a storm system into Ohio on Tuesday. Another storm is possible by the end of the work week next week. The active pattern will continue through the end of February.
