Elderly woman beaten, robbed; suspects wanted

Posted: Updated:

A 73-year-old woman is beaten and robbed on her way to work. It happened last week in the 6000 block of Lewis.

Toledo police say two men approached the woman while she was walking to work at McDonald's. They punched her in the face, knocked her down, and took off with her purse.

Officers say the woman was able to gather herself enough to get to work, where a co-worker called 911. She was taken to the hospital for treatment, where she was told that her injuries were so severe she may require surgery.

Although the victim couldn't get a good look at the two men, she told police both of them took off on foot.

Investigators followed footprints in the snow to get an idea of where the suspects went. Some of the victim's belongings, like shoes and an umbrella, were even recovered near some apartments on Gribbon Lane, very close to the scene.

Now police want to get the information out, hoping that someone will have a tip that will lead to an arrest.

"Anytime we have a crime against children or the elderly, the most helpless people in our society, when you have somebody deliberately goes after and victimizes them, these are people we need to get off the street," says Sergeant Joe Heffernan.

If you have any information about the crime, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 419-255-1111.
