International Wrestling Federation President steps down

Posted: Updated:

The President of the International Wrestling Federation has quit.

The announcement comes just days after the controversial decision to remove wrestling from the 2020 Olympics.

Raphael Martinetti has held his position with the International Olympics Committee since 2002.

The decision to drop wrestling from the Olympics sparked a massive outcry from fans and participants across the globe. Internet campaigns are already in the works pushing to reverse the decision.

This morning the U.S.A. wrestling coach says Marinetti's resignation could give wrestling a better chance at coming back.

Wrestling must now compete with seven other sports for a spot in the 2020 summer games. A final decision will be made by the IOC sometime in May.
