Lake-effect snow band leads to quick accumulation

Posted: Updated:
Toledo, OH -

Lake Erie melted enough to allow lake-effect snow to develop yesterday and again early this morning. Heavy lake-effect snowfall doesn't happen that often in northwest Ohio, but the ingredients came together early Sunday morning for a very long but narrow band of snow. The snow band was only 5 to 8 miles wide, but it did have some heavy snow that lasted for a couple hours near Bellevue. Snow totals ranged between 2-5" of snow in the town that is only about 1.5 miles wide in diameter. The snow was enough in western Erie county for a level 1 snow emergency to be issued.
