Narrow band of heavy snow socks southern suburbs

Posted: Updated:
PERRYSBURG, Ohio -

Just to the south of Toledo, some areas received three to four inches of snow, and one viewer even reported five inches in his backyard.

With lake-effect snow, a few miles can make a huge difference.

This morning between seven and nine o'clock, the area's only live doppler radar showed a narrow but intense band of snow, just south of the city.

It was more than 100 miles long, originating over Lake Michigan.

While there really was not much snow in some parts of Toledo, just to the south, parts of Perrysburg and Maumee had more than three inches, just this morning.

The snow hit hard and fast.

"It wasn't snowing when I left, I got up early to go to the Y," Gary LaPoint, a Perrysburg resident told us while shoveling snow.

Jerome Carpenter was doing the same, a block or two down the road: "It surprised me. It was a beautiful snow coming down, though."

By 7:30, I-75 and I-475 were snow-covered, and there were numerous slide-offs and a few accidents.

The snow plows were out.

Meanwhile, just north of the band, it was just a cold, February day.

About four weeks from the official start of Spring, Mr. Carpenter added, "I have my tulips, and they're waiting to come up."
