Rockets Set to Launch at MAC Indoor Championships

YPSILIANTI, Mich. – The Toledo women's track and field team will compete in the 2013 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend, Feb. 22-23, inside the Bowen Field House. UT will be represented by 17 athletes competing in 12 events, plus any additional final events that the Rockets qualify for.

All 12 MAC institutions will participate in the women's conference championship beginning on Friday, Feb. 22 with the pentathlon at 10:30 a.m., and the day will end with the distance medley at 7:10 p.m. The final day of competition starts at 11:30 a.m. with the weight throw, and the meet will conclude with the 4x400-meter relay at 4:15 p.m. and the awards ceremony at 5:00 p.m.

The Midnight Blue & Gold finished in second place overall at last year's indoor championship with 87.50 points. Kent State is the defending women's champion after tallying 108.50 points in 2012.

Tickets are $10 for an adult and $5 for youth (ages 3-12) for a one day pass. Adults can purchase an all-session (both days) pass for $15 while it will cost youth $8 for the all-session pass. While tickets will be sold at the door, the meet is expected to sell out. With only 1,250 tickets being sold for the meet, fans are encouraged to purchase pre-sale tickets online. Pre-sale tickets are now available to the public at EMUTix.com.

Most recently, the Rockets competed at the Silverston Invitational hosted by Michigan last Saturday.

 

Junior Ashley Phillips ran to an eighth-place finish in the 60-meter dash with a final time of 7.79. Freshman Lexis Williams followed Phillips with a time of 25.54 in the 200 meter for fourth place, while freshman Ciara Dickerson finished third in the 400 meter with a final time of 58.22. 

 

In the 60-meter hurdles, junior Jillian Sledge finished tied for fourth place with a finals time of 8.90. Freshman Elena Cerdan finished right behding Sledge with a final mark of 9.12 in sixth place.

 

Seniors Kiah Douglas and Katie Bollin led the field events with a first-place finish and second-place finish in the long jump, respectively. Douglas leaped 18' 7.25'', while Bollin recorded a final distance of 18' 5.25''.

 

Senior Yuhoung Fu finished second overall in the triple jump and junior Sarah Garvin finished ninth in both throwing events.
