Posted: Updated: Feb 22, 2013 07:04 AM EST

A driver is now in custody after leading Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers and Wood County Sheriff's deputies on a chase early this morning.

Troopers say the chase began near the I-475/75 split after the driver was spotted putting his vehicle into reverse on the interstate. The pursuit continued for 30 miles, ending at the intersection of Cygnet and Emerson roads. Troopers say when they cornered the vehicle, the driver took off on foot. He was eventually caught, and investigators say he appeared to be heavily intoxicated.

Investigators say the driver has an extensive criminal background; he is cooperating with authorities.
