YPSILANTI, Mich. - The Rockets finished fifth at the 2013 Mid-American Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships after two days of competition at Eastern Michigan's Bowen Fieldhouse on Friday and Saturday. Toledo tallied 65 points as Kent State claimed the title with 175 total points.
Junior Amber Brown finished fourth in the 60-meter dash finals on Saturday, running the program's eighth-best time of 7.60.
Freshman Brooke Tullis and senior Kaylin Belair combined for seven points in the mile run as they finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Tullis ran a time of 4:53.05 and Belair finished at 4:53.19. Sophomore Mackenzie Chojnacky finished in 10th place with a time of 4:57.83 after winning the 5,000-meter run on Friday. Tullis' and Belair's times are good for sixth and seventh-best on the all-time UT list.
Tullis, Belair and Chojnacky each scored points in the 3,000-meter run as well - their third event of the championship meet. Tullis raced to a third-place finish at 9:45.34, while Chojnacky placed fifth and Belair seventh.
Junior Jillian Sledge qualified for the 60-meter hurdle finals and placed eighth with a mark of 8.86.
Three jumpers participated in the triple jump on Saturday. Senior Kiah Douglas leaped 39' 7'' and senior Yuhong Fu jumped 39' 1.25'' to finish third and fourth overall. Senior Katie Bollin placed 12th with a distance of 36' 4.25".
Eastern Michigan finished second as a team, with Western Michigan in third and Akron in fourth place.
The Midnight Blue & Gold are slated to compete at the Notre Dame Last Chance Meet March 1-2. UT will open the outdoor season on March 29-30 when it hosts the Toledo Collegiate Challenge.
