Ohio report cards released after delays from probe

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio's latest ratings of public school performance show that schools made strong academic gains in eighth-grade math and science.

The Ohio Department of Education released additional data from the 2011-2012 state report cards Wednesday. Some information for Ohio's 614 traditional public school districts had been delayed for months because of a statewide attendance tampering investigation.

The department has posted two final elements:  the overall performance index for each district and building, and the "value-added" measure that rates students' annual academic growth.

Ohio's performance index scale ranges from "academic emergency" to "excellent with distinction." Two districts are on academic emergency. Eleven districts are on academic watch, five more than in the 2010-11 school year.

Rankings for nine districts with apparent irregularities were flagged as the department re-examines their attendance data.
