Spring break safety tips

Lots of college student are headed to areas where there's sandy beaches, warm waters and lots beer for spring break. Administrators at the University of Toledo are urging students to put their safety first.

These UT students aren't headed to warmer weather for spring break. They're going home for the week, but the still have safety on their minds.

"We're I am from we live in the snow belt so we get a lot of snow. The roads are always slippery and icy and stuff like that so obviously they just want us to be safe and take you know the right roads," said UT student Erica Sheridan

"My parents told me like be safe watch out for construction areas. I take the turnpike home instead of going the back roads. They told me to take it because the roads are taken a little bit care of better," said UT student Samantha Campbell. @

University officials want students who plan to party it up to play it safe on spring break. UT's police chief says try to avoid hard alcohol because it can get you trouble.

"It makes you more vulnerable target for crimes including sexual assaults so its good you're educated on that before you start out for spring break," said UT Police Chief Jeff Newton.

He also says never drink and drive, watch out for you friends and keep a close eye on your purse.  

Alex Mourry says he plans to enjoy his break at home. He says there has been lots of discussion on campus about safety during spring break

"I think people just talk about they need to control themselves when they go on spring break. Some people decide not to but it's a topic discussed," said UT student Alex Mourry.
