Rodney Dunson has spent the past 5 years trying to end hunger. As a driver for the West Ohio Food Bank he collects donations from across the state for those in need.
The food bank provides to 170 pantries in 11 counties. They also run a senior meal program,mobile food pantry and a backpack program for students.
"A lot of kids don't have the food we have at home ,so this really helps them out," says Dunson.
Last year, the West Ohio Food Bank served more than 5 million meals, but it's not enough. The latest "Feeding America" study shows they need to serve 13 million meals to close the hunger gap.
"The median income is going down and so there are a lot of people who are considered working poor. They are doing everything they can to meet their needs, but they still can't," says Gary Bright, CEO of the West Ohio Food Bank.
Bright says the food bank has the space for massive amounts of donations but they need monetary donations to help pay for distribution costs and bills to run the 5,000 sq ft freezer and refrigeration system.
His goal for the coming year is to increase both physical and monetary donations so they can work to end the hunger gap in Western Ohio.
