Church helps local family rebuild after devastating fire

Posted: Updated:

A local church has stepped up to help a family of ten that lost part of their home to a fire.  Westgate Chapel is running a collection drive through the end of the month to provide clothes, shoes and gift cards for the DeRaedt family.

A fire destroyed a good portion of their home Tuesday night, leaving behind $200,000 dollars worth of damage.  The Red Cross provided food, clothing and comfort kits for the two adults and eight kids when this first happened.   Now church members are helping out, and say prayer for the family is appreciated.

"Everything is happening, and I think they're overwhelmed, as anybody would be," says Westgate Chapel Community Life Pastor, Glenn Lewis.  "We're telling them that we're praying for them, and we'll do whatever we can to help."

Westgate members can give the church a call to see what items are needed at 419-841-8077.  The Red Cross is not allowed to collect items or money for this specific family, but leaders say you can donate to the 'Disaster Relief' fund which helps with situations like this by visiting http://www.redcross.org/charitable-donations
