Local company expanding and hiring

Posted: Updated:

A local company continues to expand and that means dozens of new jobs. Universal Marketing Group is planning to open a sales center in Wood County. They'd like to have it open by the end of this year and they're gearing up to hire people now. They plan to fill about one hundred full and part time positions in the coming months.

When you place an order for some of the most popular infomercial products in the world, your call may be answered by someone here at Universal Marketing Group in Toledo. Greg Borer is the Scheduling Manager,"P90X, Insanity, New Wave Oven, a lot of the most popular infomercials on TV direct their calls to us. We're the ones who answer the calls and make the sales."

During an average week tens of thousands of calls come in. Tammy White is the Training Manager for UMG,"All those dots you see there on the screen are all the calls coming in here from across the country, so you can see it's very busy. That's why we need to hire more people."

Borer says the Toledo sales center is one of the busiest in the country,"Weekends we take up to 1,500 calls an hour, so we'll take 15,000-20,000 calls on some weekends."

There are about one hundred fifty people working at the Toledo center, but White says the plan to open an office in Bowling Green by the end of the year will create another 100 jobs, "We would like to get people trained here so when we open our next facility, it will be a smooth transition, so they can get right in there and start taking calls."

UMG is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and there is plenty of flexibility when it comes to scheduling, "If you are working around family, school, second jobs we accommodate all kinds of schedules. Do you have full and part time job openings? Yes, full and part time. For full time we do have full benefits, 401k, paid vacations, medical, dental, eye care we have all of that."

Borer says workers have a chance to increase their base pay,"We guarantee at least $8 per hour, but we are commission based, so with your commission you have the ability to make up to $15-$20 an hour."

Universal Marketing Group has been here in Toledo for more than a decade. They're taking applications on line. Qualified candidates will be called in for an interview.
