Toledo woman found guilty of aggravated murder

Posted: Updated:

A Toledo woman is found guilty of shooting and killing a Sylvania Township man. Police say Melody Williams then set the victim's house on fire.

Williams showed no emotion when the judge read the verdict. The mother and grandmother was convicted of shooting LC Lyons in the head then setting his house on fire.

It happened in July of 2011 -- in Sylvania Township. Williams mother ran out of the courtroom after her daughter was convicted. Investigators say Williams was struggling financially and robbed the victim for his jewelry.

Williams acted as her own attorney.  It was a tough four days for the victims familY.

"I feel today justice was finally done after 20 months we finally got justice for LC today," said the victim's sister Vanessa Randolph.

Lyons sister traveled from Missouri to attend the trial. She misses her brother.

"I remember things everyday about him. His caring ways the things that he tried to do for other people. He really was a good man I won't say he was a saint but he had a good heart," said Randolph.

Williams maintains she did not kill, rob and set Lyons house on fire. But prosecutors say evidence collected by detectives proved Williams committed the crime. The victim's car was stolen and found near Williams 14th street home. Inside the car police found green tipped diamond matches the same matches found at the crime scene and at Williams home.

"Solid evidence was presented we had experts we had a detective that has done months and months of investigation. I felt very firmly that these experts and law enforcement officers knew what they were doing," said Randolph.

Melody Williams family had not comment.  She will be sentenced on Monday.
