Police: volunteer stole personal info from fellow volunteer

Posted: Updated:

A volunteer for the United Way of Greater Toledo is accused of stealing personal information from a fellow volunteer.

The organization says it was contacted by law enforcement on March 1st about the possible misuse of volunteer data by a volunteer in the Free Tax Preparation Program that helps families prepare their taxes.

The agency stressed that this person is not accused of using personal information from any of the agency's clients for fraudulent purposes.

Volunteers and participants in the tax preparation program were notified of the issue. The person implicated was a volunteer who had passed a background check, undergone IRS ethics training and participated in more than 80 hours of training. The United Way said that person is no longer affiliated with the United Way of Greater Toledo.
