Project iAm presented Acoustics for Autism in Maumee on Sunday.
The event raises money for the Project iAm scholarship fund. If selected for a scholarship, families. can use the money to pay for therapy programs for their children.
This charity was founded by Nicole Khoury. She says she thought up the idea because she has friends who are struggling with autism care and she wanted to do something to help.
Sunday's all-day event will featured 20 bands from Ohio an Michigan. The Village Idiot is the main stage, but more Maumee bars participated.
"I'm the type of person who does things. So, I decided to do something about it," Khoury said.
Khoury said the event could not be done without all of the help from the 30-40 volunteers.
She pointed out that research has proven that music is a successful form of therapy for those with autism. Having a fundraiser centered around music just made sense.
The event was family- friendly and free. The music started at 12:30pm and goes until 2:30am. There's a kids' tent, silent auction and much more.
