Teen reports stranger danger incident on Airport Hwy.

Posted: Updated:

Toledo Police are asking for your help finding a man who allegedly approached a teenage girl. It started near Airport and Fearing, where the man began following the 14-year-old.

At South Detroit and Airport, the man allegedly asked the girl whether she needed a ride. She said "no" and ran home.

The man is described as being in his late 20s, with dark brown hair, a blue jacket and driving a blue car that the girl described as dirty.

Toledo Police have units in the area and say more will be on duty in the area when school starts and ends.

Residents in the area say it's scary to think their children could be in danger.

"It's scary because I have a little brother and he walks to school but we tell him all the time, don't talk to strangers, just come home," says Daniel Minley, who lives near the intersection.  "If somebody tries to talk to you, just walk away or give us a call."

Eddie Rahm has two daughters, and lives close to Airport and South Detroit.  He is already protective of his daughters but says he's not worried about the overall safety of his neighborhood.

"I think it could happen anywhere. People like to say certain areas are worse than others, it can happen anywhere," says Rahm. "So just be aware of where they're at, and keep an eye on them."

TPS leaders have contacted Bowsher High School parents to notify them of the situation, and plan to have more security officers working on Tuesday.  School district leaders have also notified local elementary school officials of the situation.

If you have any information or see something suspicious, you're urged to call police.  You can call their Crime Stoppers hotline at 419-255-1111.
