Police call it the most extreme case they've seen in some time.
"Child pornography is always terrible, but there is some that just rises to a different, I don't know how to say it, but... Extremely terrible, and this is one of those times," said Chief Deputy Jared Oliver of the Erie County Sheriff's office.
Police and the Ohio Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force have been investigating 41-year-old James Campbell for almost a year.
Their investigation led them to a home at 406 Tecumseh Place in Huron. Police said they obtained a search warrant, but Campbell was already gone.
They later found him at his parents' house on Kelley's Island, where police say they recovered evidence in the case.
"At that address in Kelley's Island, that's where they seized several computers, hard drives, external hard drives and other equipment," Oliver said.
Police analyzed the evidence, and Campbell was arrested at a different home in Huron on Tuesday.
The pornographic material, with images and videos of prepubescent and infant children, was found on an external hard drive. Campbell used a Dell desktop to view the material.
"There were several videos with adults having sexual intercourse with young females, juveniles."
Chief Deputy Oliver said 90 videos and 44 photos were found on the 300 gigabyte external hard drive.
"We've traced back through the National Exploited and missing children, that's actually child pornography that's been identified in the past investigations other videos we don't know where they originated from yet,"Oliver said.
Neighbors said they were shocked to hear what happened. They added that Campbell was renting the house on Munsee and most of the houses on that street are rented out as summer homes.
