Man in custody after nine hour standoff in Adrian

Posted: Updated:

Adrian, MICHIGAN (WTVG) - A nine-hour standoff in Adrian is over after officers used tear gas to smoke out a suspect.

The standoff started around 4:00pm Saturday on Maumee Street in Adrian.

Lenawee County Sheriff's Deputies say their fugitive team was attempting to catch a parole violator.

He was also a suspect in a robbery at Jerry's Groceries and Liquor Store on Beecher Street Tuesday.

Saturday afternoon officers say they spotted the man who then barricaded himself in the attic of the home.

During the standoff authorities blocked off a number of surrounding streets and asked the public to avoid the area.

Around 1:00am officers released a chemical gas in the attic and took the suspect into custody.

He is now behind bars at the Lenawee County Jail.

Right now the suspect's name is not being released. Investigators say the man is 25 years old and he's from Detroit.
