11-year-old Ohio schoolgirl charged in bomb threat

Posted: Updated:

CANFIELD, Ohio (AP) - An 11-year-old girl has been charged with making a bomb threat that forced the evacuation of her middle school in northeast Ohio.

Police in Canfield near Youngstown say no bomb was found last week and the fifth-grader admitted writing the threatening note.

Canfield Police Chief Chuck Colucci says the girl offered no explanation but regrets it.

The chief tells The Youngstown Vindicator that the girl's family has cooperated and understood she would be charged. Because of her age, her name was withheld.

The case is pending in Mahoning County Juvenile Court. The girl also faces an expulsion hearing.
