Ohioan Sam Hornish, Jr. to lead test for NASCAR

 

WHAT: NASCAR Nationwide Series Test

WHO: Sam Hornish, Jr.; driver of the No.12 Alliance Truck Parts / WURTH Ford Mustang for Penske Racing. Hornish, Jr. currently leads the NASCAR Nationwide Series Championship standings by 28 points. He has one victory this season at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

WHEN: Monday, April 15 from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Media Luncheon at noon featuring  Sam Hornish, Jr. and Wayne Auton, Nationwide Series Director.

WHERE:  Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course located at 7721 Steam Corners Road, Lexington, Ohio 44904

WHY: The NASCAR Nationwide Series test is in advance of the Nationwide Children's Hospital 200 at Mid-Ohio on August 16-17, 2013. 

Hornish, Jr. career highlights:

  • 2012: Finishes a NASCAR career best fourth place in the NNS championship standings on the strength of 10 top-five and 22 top-10 finishes.
  • 2011: Runs a limited schedule in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS), driving the No. 12 Alliance Truck Parts Dodge.
  • 2010: Starts all 36 Cup Series races for the No. 77 team and makes significant improvements in his average starting position, average finishing position, laps completed and laps led.
  • Previously: Competed in NASCAR Sprint Cup Series in 2008 and 2009. Won three IndyCar Series Championships (2001, 2002, 2006) and the 2006 Indianapolis 500. Finished 14th in his only IndyCar start at Mid-Ohio in 2007.
