Sunday evening flooding update

Posted: Updated:
WATERVILLE, Ohio -

River flooding continues along most northwest Ohio rivers this Sunday evening.  Flood Warnings remain in effect in Lucas, Wood, Fulton, Henry, Putnam, Allen, Williams, Defiance and Marion Counties.

In most cases, conditions continue to improve with floodwaters receding back to near - and eventually below flood stage.

However, the Tiffin River is slow to drain, and it continues to rise in the Stryer area.  Now, it is near flood stage. It should crest on Monday, less than a foot above flood stage.  This will put some lowland areas under water for a couple more days in Defiance, Fulton and Williams Counties.

Elsewhere, the Maumee River is still about a foot above flood stage in Waterville, so lowland areas in southern Lucas and northern Wood Counties will remain under water tonight.  The Maumee will continue to fall, dipping below flood stage on Monday.

The Blanchard River is still about a foot above flood stage in Ottawa.  It has fallen 3 feet in the past 24 hours, but lowlands and farmland, mainly in the south side of Ottawa, remain under water.

The Auglaize River at Fort Jennings has just fallen below flood stage, late this Sunday.

Finally, to the south, the Scioto River at Prospect remains about 3' above flood stage.  It is falling, but this is a slow process in this location.  Highway 203 remains closed, north of Prospect, and portions of Elm and West River Road are also flooding.

These rivers will only have a brief chance to drain, as another very wet week ahead of us.  Scattered thunderstorms will return on Monday evening and Monday night.  The heaviest showers and thunderstorms will be likely on Wednesday and Thursday, very similar to what we experienced, last week.
