Mother, son found dead in Point Place

Posted: Updated:

A Toledo woman and her 11-year-old son were found dead in a garage Monday night. The discovery was made on 128th Street in Point Place around 11:00 p.m.

The two were found hanging in a garage and were pronounced dead on scene. Police are calling it a murder suicide.

Police say 48-year-old Kim Hassler and her son Andew were living in the home with Hassler's boyfriend. Police say he's the one who made the discovery.

"At this point, everything is still under investigation," says Sergeant Joe Heffernan. "We are looking for more details as to why this would have happened and what would have caused her to do this, especially to her child."

Neighbors say they didn't hear any strange sounds Monday night. Man are stunned by the news.

"We are mothers ourselves, so for a mother to do that, and with her own child," says neighbor Dara Sneed. "How did she have the strength to get an 11-year-old to hang them. It's sad."

Andrew Hassler was a fifth grader at Edgewater Elementary.  A spokesperson for Toledo Public Schools tells 13abc counselors made themselves available to help students and staff cope with the sudden loss.

Police say they will know more once the toxicology reports come in.

They say Kim Hassler did leave a suicide note.
