David Lieb is 16 years old. That's old enough to drive a car, but at the Monroe Skate Park, he prefers his bike.

"On my 12th birthday my mom brought me to the skate park for the first time," Lieb explains, "Since then. I've pretty much just been riding around and having fun with it"

The high school sophomore from Ida is one of the top amateur BMX riders in the country.  Last year, Lieb Took 7th in the Free Flow nationals.

He'll tell you there's still a fair amount of trial and error.

"Last summer I broke my ribs trying some tricks," said Lieb, "but it happens."

Under his jeans, Lieb wears knee pads and shin guards, plus a helmet. That protection, he says, gives him an extra boost of confidence.

Right now, Lieb says, He rides for Hyper bike Co. Five riders from around the world are on the company's amateur team. Lieb hopes to get bumped up to the pros, saying that's his dream.

Next weekend, Lieb heads to New Jersey to compete in the Recon tour.
