Update: 5 tornadoes confirmed in northwest Ohio

Posted: Updated:
HAMLER, Ohio -

Five tornadoes have been confirmed in northwest Ohio by the National Weather Service, from Wednesday night's severe thunderstorms.

The first to touch down was an EF-0 tornado in Willshire, Van Wert County.  Maximum winds were estimated to be 80 mph.  The storm survey completed by the National Weather Service suggests a tornado width of 80 yards, and a path length of 0.2 miles.  A few homes and buildings sustained damage from that tornado.

The strongest of the five was an EF-1 tornado, 2 miles to the southeast of Malinta in Henry County.  It had winds of 95 mph, during its very short path, according to the NWS storm survey.

That same storm produced another tornado touchdown, only one mile away.  An EF-0 tornado was confirmed 3 miles SE of Malinta, also briefly touching down.

Another EF-0 tornado touched down near Hamler, in Henry County, with winds of 85 mph.  It's path length was a half mile.

The same storm produced another EF-0 tornado that touched down across the Wood County line, in Custar.  This was the longest of the five, with a path length of 0.9 miles, and 80 mph winds.

These numbers were derived by storm survey crews from the National Weather Service.
