Property owners asked to help search for missing toddler

Posted: Updated:

It's been 13 days since anyone has seen a missing toddler from East Toledo. Toledo Police and federal agents have been combing the city, searching for any sign of 18-month-old Elaina Steinfurth. This weekend the community plans to join the effort.

Police say they're working on several leads, but they still haven't found Baby Elaina.

Officers arrested Elaina's mother this week. Angela Steinfurth is charged with child endangering.

Police are asking for your help finding the toddler this weekend.

"Right now we're right where we have been," says Sergeant Joe Heffernan. "We're following up on leads, looking for more. We're hoping this $10,000 reward encourage some people to come forward with some information."

Police arrested Elaina's mother, Angela Steinfurth, on child endangering charges. Court records state she admitted to knowing Elaina suffered a serious physical injury but didn't get medical treatment.

Steinfurth is now in jail on $250,000 bond.

Toledo Police are urging residents to search their homes.

"Look in your garbage cans. Look in some places where a child might be," says Heffernan. "We still consider this a missing persons case, but we want everyone to look everywhere."

Landlords are asked to check their properties as well.

"If you own some properties, if you have a garage, now might be a good time to do inventory and see what is in there," Heffernan says.

This weekend organizers of the group "Justice for Nevaeh" will continue to search for the little girl.

Police say, if you know anything about this missing child, call them immediately.

Police want to stress that they are still treating this case as a missing persons investigation. Angela Steinfurth is not charged with the disappearance of the toddler.
