Search continues for baby Elaina

Posted: Updated:

It's been two weeks and counting and there are still no signs of a missing toddler from East Toledo. Elaina Steinfurth was last seen June 2.

Since her disappearance, investigators and volunteers have worked tirelessly to track down any sign of the missing 18-month-old.

Monday was no different, but the morale of searchers is waning.

"The days are getting longer, and each moment that passes cuts the chances that Elaina will be found alive," says volunteer Steven Garcia.

"Something about it just doesn't feel right," says grandfather Terry Steinfurth.

On Monday investigators focused once again on the Maumee River. The FBI Tactical Dive Team, the Coast Guard and Toledo Police searched the water near the Anthony Wayne Bridge.

It's an area they've searched before. There's still no sign of the little girl, but family members are holding out hope and want someone to start talking.

Meanwhile, Elaina's mother is in the Lucas County Jail on a charge of child endangering. Police say Angela Steinfurth admitted that Elaina was hurt and she failed to seek medical attention for the girl. Steinfurth will be back in court Thursday.

If you have any information about the case, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 419-255-111 or 1-800-CALL-FBI.
