STRIVE students spend summer studying for OGTs

Posted: Updated:

Instead of enjoying summer fun, they're hitting the books so they can graduate. Around 80 students are enrolled in the STRIVE program this summer, hoping to pass the Ohio Graduation Test.

For Robert Evans, it's a last ditch effort. The Start High School senior did not receive a high school diploma, because he didn't pass the OGT.

He signed up for STRIVE's OGT Summer Prep Camp, along with 79 other students.

The program is the brain child of Toledo Police Officer Flo Wormely.

"It's a no nonsense program," she says. "You have to do the things we tell you to do. If you don't, you just have to hit the door basically."

The camp offers a combination of testing and tutoring, so students can pass every portion of the state test.

The program is paid for out-of-pocket, and the group is always looking for donations. If you would like to support the organization, you can call Officer Wormely at 419-245-1367.
