First day in court in Moody Manor trial

Posted: Updated:

It was an emotional day in court as the state called its first witness in the Moody Manor murder trial.

Keshawn Jennings and Antwaine Jones are accused of shooting into an apartment killing a toddler and seriously injuring her sister.

The third suspect in the case James Moore agreed to a plea deal and will testify against his friends. 13 ABC's Alexis means is live with the latest.

Prosecutors showed pictures of the shattered glass patio door to the apartment where one year old Keondra  Hooks was shot in the head and her sister was seriously injured. the girls were sleeping on this blanket by the patio door. the great-grandmother testified she was asleep in the living room when she felt glass hit her leg.

"I said get down get down theyre shooting. I got down and then I reached back for the baby and when I found her I picked her up by that time the gunshots were over with and she was in my arms" said the great grandmother Naomi Reed.

Keondra died at a local hospital. The Toddlers great aunt also took the stand. She cried as she told jurors she was standing in the middle of the room when the shots were fired.

"She was crying and I saw blood on her so I thought it was Keondra's blood but when I picked her up and my hands and stuff got bloody I knew it wasn't hers so I lifted her shirt up and there was," said the great aunt Tamatha Pride.

Leondra was shot in the back. The defense attorneys claim no one can ID Keshawn Jennings or Antwaine Jones as the shooters.

"You didn't see who fired the weapons?" asked defense attorney Larry Dalabio. "No," said Pride.

But multiple people heard the gunshots and called 911. One witness said she saw the getaway van.

Dispatcher: What kind of vehicle were they in?
Caller: They're in like a 2000 minivan.
Dispatcher: What color?
Caller: It was like a grayish color.

That witness was the stepmother of James Moore. Moore is accused of driving the get-a-way van. He agreed to a three-year plea deal with prosecutors if he testifies against his friends.
