Police: body inside burning car likely a suicide

Posted: Updated:

The Erie County Sheriff says the person found dead in a burning car likely committed suicide.

Erie County Sheriff Paul Sigsworth says a passerby called 9-1-1 around 6 this morning to report smoke coming from the woods of the Milan Wildlife area just off of Lover's Lane Road in Oxford Township.

When emergency crews arrived they found a car engulfed in flames and a body in the backseat of the vehicle.

The body was burned beyond recognition. Deputies were able to find a license plate and tentatively identified the driver as a 33-year-old Norwalk woman. Sigsworth tells 13abc that a detailed suicide note was found in the woman's home.

The Lucas County Coroner's office is scheduled to conduct an autopsy Monday.
