Michigan International Speedway was transformed this weekend from a NASCAR track to an obstacle course as the state's only host venue for Tough Mudder. The event is a hardcore, 12-mile obstacle course designed by British Special Forces to test strength, stamina, mental grit and camaraderie. Nearly 16,000 competitors from throughout the area and Canada challenged the course at MIS, making it the second-largest event for Tough Mudder in 2013. With innovative and fun obstacle courses, half a million inspiring participants and more than $3 million raised for the Wounded Warrior Project, Tough Mudder is the premier adventure challenge series in the world. In 2012 alone, there were 35 Tough Mudder events with over 460,000 participants across the country.

Besides its NASCAR races and Tough Mudder, MIS also hosts a number of other events throughout the year. On July 19-21 the track will be the host site for the Faster Horses Festival, a three-day country concert. The speedway annually hosts the Michigan Wine and Beer Festival presented by Experience Jackson in May, the Spirit of America in September and Michigan High School Athletic Association Cross Country Championships in November.
