Toledo Police host “Brains and Body” program

Posted: Updated:

Toledo police are focusing on "Brains and Body" this summer as they host a fitness program for kids in 5th through 12th grades.

It's designed to boost students' math and critical thinking skills as well as physical conditioning.

Organizers brought back some of the "old school" classics including double-dutch, hula hoop, and basketball to get youngsters on their feet.

Chess and etiquette classes were also on tap to challenge them mentally.

Toledo Police say it's all about being well-rounded and seeing law enforcement in a positive light.

"We just want to promote fitness, promote healthy minds and then also interact with police, so they know we're not just out there with the perception that we just arrest everybody," says Officer Flo Wormely.

The free program kicked off Monday and runs on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays through August 14 at Robinson Middle School.

Registration forms are available at the Ottawa Police Sub-Station at 2145 N. Cove Blvd.
